PRP Microneedling Q&A
What is platelet-rich plasma (PRP) microneedling?
PRP microneedling is one of the aesthetic treatments available at Star Treatment Healthcare Services and Med Spa. It combines two skin rejuvenating elements: microneedling and PRP.
Microneedling
Microneedling is a facial treatment that uses a special tool with thin, tiny needles that create micro-wounds on the surface of your skin. These wounds trigger your skin’s healing process, increasing the production of collagen.
Collagen is a structural protein found in the dermal layer of your skin (responsible for your skin’s strength and elasticity). As you get older, collagen levels decline, causing your skin to become thin and fragile and more susceptible to fine lines and wrinkles.
By stimulating collagen production, microneedling improves your skin’s strength and resilience, rejuvenating your youthful appearance.
PRP
PRP is a blood product made from a sample of your blood that contains a high concentration of platelets. You may know platelets are the cells that stop cuts from bleeding, but these tiny cells also contain proteins and growth factors that heal those cuts.
When combined with microneedling, the healing elements in PRP enhance your skin’s natural rejuvenation process.
What happens during PRP microneedling?
Mrs. Beavers reviews the specific details of your PRP microneedling at your initial consultation, so you can know what to expect. While you relax in the treatment chair, Mrs. Beavers draws a sample of blood to create your PRP.
She cleans your skin with an antiseptic agent and applies a numbing lotion to reduce discomfort during your treatment. Mrs. Beavers then uses the microneedling tool to create the tiny tears and then massages the PRP into your skin.
After PRP microneedling, Mrs. Beavers applies a serum to reduce redness and irritation. After treatment, there’s no downtime. Most patients resume their usual activities the next day.
When can I expect to see results from PRP microneedling?
Results from PRP microneedling may vary. However, you may notice improvements in your skin within a few days following your session. However, your body’s healing process takes time, and you may not see the final results for a few months.
Mrs. Beavers may recommend a series of three or more sessions to get the best results.
